The Blowing Rock – Blowing Rock

The Blowing Rock is North Carolina’s oldest travel attraction with visitors since 1933. The Blowing Rock rock is an immense cliff at 4000 feet above sea level overlooking Johns River Gorge 3000 feet below and you can read about how it and the town got its name. Experience the wind blowing up from the valley below yourself. Open year-round weather permitting (call ahead), wheelchair accessible and leash pets allowed.

Horn in the West – Boone

The nation’s oldest Revolutionary War drama, open since 1952 and centrally located in Boone NC. Bringing to life the larger than life persona of Daniel Boone Play, the live play follows Blue Ridge Mountains settlers as they take up arms against the tyranny of England, set in 1771. Moses Cone Memorial Park – Blowing Rock

Wander 25 miles of Carriage trails, hike to the top of Flat Top Mountain, both Trout Lake and Bass Lake allow fishing and walk through the historic mansion of the Denim King Moses Cone. This Blowing Rock estate is a not-to-miss attraction. Beautiful well-manicured land.

Todd Island Park – Todd

Railroad Grade Rd at Castle Ford, Todd, NC 28684

Located off one of the most popular walking and biking trails in the High COuntry, Railroad Grade Road, you will find a 5 acre island in the middle of the New River in the quaint town of Todd, near Boone NC in Ashe County. There is a 1 mile hike around the perimeter as well as channel fishing, birding and wildlife watching. There is a bidge over the New River from the parking lot.
